Tile Roof Repair – Is It Time For An Inspection?

April 10, 2013 by Jesse Curry

Tile Roof RepairTile roof repair can be an expensive undertaking but it is also a necessary one. Your tiles are the last line of defense on your home to keep out the searing heat, rain, snow, frost, wind and any other elements the weather might throw at us. This is even more likely in states like Florida where at least once or twice a year the tail-end of a hurricane may pay your roof a visit.

But ask yourself, how often would you go up on the roof and take a look to see if there is any damage that might require tile roof repair? The answer is … probably very seldom.  Assessing any need for tile roof repair from the ground is what most of us is limited to.

When you assess your roof for any signs of damage it is important that you get up close and personal to the tiles. But under no circumstances should you attempt to repair the roof by yourself. These types of repairs are best left to those who are constantly updating their skills in health and safety in roof building, tile roof repair and tile replacement. It truly is a job for the experts and any attempt to try and repair your tiles would end up costing more money that you would save trying to do it yourself.

Roofing experts recommend that tile and roof inspections should take place at least every six months. Usually in the spring time after a long, hard, cold winter and again in the fall, following a searing hot summer, which we all have here in Florida, and look for signs of cracking on the tiles first.

Tiles have a habit of splitting and only a close inspection of this will allow you to discover this. When a tile cracks, it could be just a hairline fracture, but the split may be total and complete. This is a case where the whole tile needs to be replaced and the cracked one thrown away.

Water will seep into your roof space from a broken or cracked tile and you will observe this when you see a damp patch in the attic, on the ceiling on the upper level floors, and around skylights & chimneys. Also look in the corners of every upstairs room and also check the center of the ceiling for water staining. If you see any you should contact the professionals at Roofing by Curry to schedule a roof inspection as well as your free estimate. The sooner the better — why worry – call Curry!
