3 Things You Never Want to Hear From Your Roofer

November 6, 2020 by Jesse Curry

Your roof is an important part of your house and is largely responsible for protecting the residents and personal belongings from harsh weather. It is crucial to keep your roof in tip-top shape so you can have a safe, comfortable shelter for many years to come. A roofing contractor is key to a successful inspection, re-roofing and maintenance. However, if the roofer makes the following statements, you may want to consider other roofing contractors.

“I’m Not Familiar With Your Roofing Type.”

It is critical to employ a roofing contractor that is trained and experienced in repairing or replacing the type of roofing you have. There are many roof systems that have unique layouts. A contractor needs to be equipped with knowledge and adequate skills, or else you will end up dealing with bigger, more costly problems down the road. Once the roofer expresses doubt, do not proceed with the contract.

“I Don’t Have a Certificate of Insurance.”

Make sure your roofing contractor is properly licensed in the Florida state. Good roof companies should also have a valid workers’ compensation and general liability insurance. These will protect you from losses in case an unfortunate accident occurs and a worker becomes injured while working on your home. They will also provide coverage for property damage.

“Your Roof Needs Immediate Replacement.”

Feel free to seek a second opinion if the roofer suggests a replacement, especially if your roof is relatively new and designed to withstand severe elements. Keep in mind that modern roofs can last for decades. However, you need to perform routine inspections and small repairs in order to maintain its healthy condition. Make sure a roof replacement is your most economical option before signing a legal agreement.
