Top 5 Frequently Asked Roofing Questions

Roofing contractors meet a lot of clients everyday, both new and returning. At Roofing by Curry, we are no different. In fact, in our years of experience as a leading roofing contractor, we receive a lot of similar questions about our products and services.

Roofing Questions

For your convenience, we thought we’d answer some of the questions we frequently get asked.

  1. Does my roof need repair or replacement? We can’t give a definitive answer until we inspect your roof. But you can expect a roofing replacement based on your roof’s age and general condition: asphalt shingles typically require replacement 20 to 30 years after installation, while tile or slate lasts for 50 years or more. Leaks indicate a severe roofing problem but doesn’t necessarily require a replacement. In many cases, professional repair work takes care of the problem.

  2. Can I have roofing tiles that don’t look Spanish? Absolutely. While red tiles are associated with Mediterranean or Spanish architecture, they also come in different shapes, sizes, and colors.  This means you can enjoy the benefits of tile roofing without deviating from your home’s architectural style.

  3. Are metal roofs noisy when it rains? Sheet metal is inherently noisy, but when installed on a roofing system – complete with underlayment and insulation – it may even be quieter than asphalt shingle roofs. As a bonus, roofing companies recommend metal roofing for its ability to shed rainwater and snow better than asphalt shingles.

  4. Do I need to get my roof repaired right after a storm? In an ideal situation, yes, unless circumstances dictate otherwise. Mind that most insurance companies have a timeframe for filing claims and completing repairs.

  5. Can I do my own roofing inspections? Yes, but we discourage climbing the roof. You can, however, check your roof’s condition from the ground using a good pair of binoculars. Pay special attention to hips and valleys for signs of standing water and accumulated leaves and debris. Also note of your roof’s general condition and call for repairs if you notice any damaged, loose, or missing shingles.
