  Metal Roofing Basics
Metal roofs are great for any type of roof and are ideal in forested, moss prone, or heavy rain areas. Typically made of steel, aluminum, copper, and galvalume metal roofs offer some of the best protection for your home. They with stand high winds, shed rain very effectively, and are fire resisitant. Some people fear that that the rain will make too much noise or that lightning may be attracted to a metal roof, and is more likely to strike the house but these concerns are unfounded.

Metal roofs are very lightweight, weighing about one quarter as much as tile roofs and nearly half as much as asphalt shingle roofs. Metal roofing is generally more expensive than asphalt roofing. It has a long life and can even lower heating and cooling costs because it reflects heat from the sun. If properly installed metal roofing will usually last many years with manufacturer warranties often lasting 50 years.

Metal roofs vary in color, style, and texture more than any other roofing material. They can be made to look like wood shakes, standard shingles, and even tile but without the extra weight. Many styles come in sheets which are quickly and easily installed while metal shingles and metal tiles will require additional time and expense because of individual placement and fastening.

Standing Seam Metal Roofing
A standing seam roof is constructed of many interlocking panels that run vertically from the roof's ridge (the top of the roof) to the eave (the edge of the roof). The interlocking seam where two panels join together is raised above the roof's flat surface, allowing water to run off without seeping between panels.
In most instances standing seam metal roofing is installed with vertical panels that are cut to length at a factory and delivered to the job site. Other types are shaped and cut right on the job site using portable equipment.
The method most commonly used to secure the panels to the roof sheathing is the use of hidden fasteners. The fasteners are secured to the raised portion of each panel and subsequently covered by the next adjoining panel during installation.

5V-Crimp Metal Roofing
5V-Crimp is a tried and true metal roof system. As one of the first metal roofing panels to gain nationwide popularity, 5V-Crimp Roofing has been used for decades. 5V-Crimp is versatile and performs well on residential roofs as well as commercial roofing systems. The traditional double "v" shaped ribs, as well as the low-profile of the panel make 5V-Crimp a great choice for nearly any style roof. Unlike standing seam roofs where the fasteners are hidden, the fasteners on the 5V-Crimp are exposed.

Metal Tile Roofing
Standard tile roofs can be heavy, yet fragile and costly to maintain. Metal Tile, however, has the graceful curves of classic tile, but the lightness and strength of metal, but one must consider that the costs are much higher than a standard cement tile toof.
